Pisces New Moon - March 1, 2014

Saturday, March 1st, marks the day of the Pisces New Moon. Here we begin a new lunar cycle that will include the Spring Equinox. For all of us currently experiencing a long and cold winter this is encouraging. The time of the conjunction of Sun and Moon in Pisces will be 3 AM (EST) and the degree, 10:39.

This collage is Soul Speak Oracle Card #44, The Element of Water. I chose it from my Soul Speak card deck to represent  Pisces, our New Moon Water sign, to illustrate water's healing, nurturing and dissolving qualities. Pisces is ruled by the planet Neptune, which specializes in dissolving forms, be they physical or mental.

So as we look to align our intentions with the energy of the cosmos Pisces will be our focus. The house ruled by Pisces and Neptune is the 12th, the last, the place of endings, of resolution, the coming to spiritual truths such as Oneness and the connectedness of all life. This house also supports the world of imagination, dreams, mystical experience, and the tendency to be sensitive and psychic.

The Pisces ruler, Neptune, is conjunct the New Moon, adding emphasis to this otherworldly picture. What a great time to dip deeply inward before Aries comes into dominance later in the month. Here is an opportunity for reflection, for observation of our inner emotional and spiritual life. What did we learn from the winter's limitations and lack of mobility? Were our abilities to cooperate and relate to others in our environment strained? What strategies seemed to work, if any? Did we get that massage we've been wanting? Did we start exploring yoga, an exercise program or meditation practice? Have we begun to read food labels with more savvy and determination? Are we taking more time for creative work?

Considering the symbolism of water, it's a time to relax, feel what it's like to be in your personal energy  "flow" and release anything (dissolve) that has out-lasted its usefulness.

Just when we might think it's going to be a time for active motion forward several planets are going retrograde. Yes, Mercury is one, but it's also the case for Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Mars is in Libra, another factor slowing him down, as he has to keep stopping to consider other people and deal with his tendency to have trouble making decisions. With Mercury retrograde in Aquarius it might be a good time to let your mind out of the cage and let it explore new ways of seeing/believing.

Jupiter is busy in this New Moon chart making trine aspects to the Sun, Moon and Neptune while setting up a T-Square with Pluto and Uranus. In Cancer now, Jupiter is looking out for family, evaluating those relationships while also busy vitalizing and encouraging the other planets it aspects. Jupiter adds a positive, expansive energy to this time so feel free to dream big when setting your intentions, especially when it comes to water themes, since Cancer is also a water sign.

I've got my eye on the upcoming Cardinal Grand Cross on April 23-24. On that day there will be four Cardinal sign planets at 13 degrees squaring one another, Pluto, Uranus, Mars and Jupiter. There are many websites addressing the possibilities of this Grand Cross if you're interested. Also there's a book, Cosmos & Psyche by Richard Tarnas, that researches all the times in history that Pluto and Uranus have been in close aspect (conjunct or square) and affected social/historic events in a dramatic way.

I'll be continuing to discuss this upcoming Grand Cross. My next blog will likely address both the Spring Equinox and the New Moon which happen 10 days or so apart.

Spring really is coming! Sending love,

Kate
